What is wellness? A simple guide

Wellness is the daily practice of noticing what you need and giving it a little attention. Unlike health, it is something you do, not something you have: small habits for your body, mind and relationships, plus a free guided meditation.

A guided pause for wellness

The guided audio is coming soon.

What is wellness and how do you practice it?

What is wellness, really?

Noticing what you need, again and again.

Wellness is the ongoing practice of noticing what you need and giving it a little attention. The noticing is the practice: some days it asks for rest, other days for movement, a conversation or a quiet moment.

A perfect routine or a look.

It is not a finish line, a perfect routine or a look. You cannot fail at it, because it starts again with the next small choice.

Body, emotions, attention, connections.

How you care for your body, your emotions, your attention and your connections. You do not have to work on all of them at once: a small, honest step in one makes the others a little easier.

Is wellness just another word for health?

How you are right now.

The state of your body and mind at a given moment. It can change from one day to the next.

What you do to look after it.

The active practice of looking after your health and your life: small, repeated choices rather than a result.

Something you do, not something you have.

Because it is something you do, wellness changes with the day. What it looks like on a tired day is different from a day with energy, and both count.

What counts as wellness on a tired day?

Part of wellness, not a break from it.

Rest is not the opposite of doing wellness: it is one of its forms. Give it the same attention you would give a workout or a meal.

Your body and mind catch up.

Slowing down lets your body and mind catch up, and it is often what you needed most on a day that feels heavy.

Ten quiet minutes today.

Sleep, a quiet evening, or simply saying no all count. Choose the one that fits today and put it in your day like an appointment.

What counts as wellness with energy?

A stretch, a dance, two songs.

Movement does not have to be a workout. A stretch, a dance in the kitchen or a few flights of stairs all count.

Hear what your body asks for.

The point is not to perform but to listen: some days your body wants a lot of movement, other days only a little. Both are the practice.

Move for the length of two songs.

Pick two songs you like and move however feels good: walking around, stretching, dancing. When they end, stop. That is enough for today.

How do I practice wellness in five minutes?

Outside, with no destination.

A few minutes outside, without a route or a goal. Leave the destination out of it: the walk is the point.

Room for the mind, a gentle reset.

It gives your mind room to wander and your body a gentle reset. It is one of the simplest wellness habits to start.

Headphones at home, once this week.

Leave the headphones at home once this week and notice what you hear and see. Five minutes is plenty.

What helps when everything feels loud?

Between tasks, nothing to achieve.

A pause between tasks, without trying to relax or fix anything. There is nothing to achieve.

How you actually feel.

Quiet moments are where you notice how you actually feel. You do not need to change it, only to notice it.

One minute at a window.

Look out a window for one full minute. Let your eyes rest on something far away and breathe slowly: it is the seed of any meditation practice.

Pick one. Start small.

You do not need all of it. Choose the one that feels easiest today.
